About James Patton Simmons

"James Patton Simmons was born in Lumpkin County, Georgia August 23, 1859 where his early life was spent on his father's farm. He was married to Elizabeth Lingerfelt in 1876. To this union were born six children, two surviving their father, Mrs. Suzanne Babcock of Barnard, Kansas, and Adolphus Simmons of Carmage, Okla. The mother and four children preceded him in going. After his marriage he remained in Georgia until 1881 when he moved to Platte County, Missouri, where he made his home until 1885. Then with his family he came to Mitchell County, Kansas and has since resided in this state until his decease which occurred April 25, 1942 at Hutchinson, Kansas. He united with the Baptist Church in early life. He leaves two brothers, Elisha and Avery of Barnard, Kansas, and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Borgen of Asherville Kansas and Mrs. Emma Kaul of Barnard, Kansas, and other relatives. The funeral was held at the Saltville church at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. C. V. Overland of Ada, Kansas in charge. Burial was made in the cemetery adjoining the church. The pallbearers were: A.J. Brockway, John Tatum, Orville Tatum, Fred Simmons, Kyle Simmons, and Joe Pruitt. Music was furnished by A.W. Griffeth, Wm. Griffeth, Mrs. Frank Simmons, and Mrs. Cecil Pruitt, with A.W.
