About James Slater

James died of cholera while crossing the plains to Utah with his family. He is buried along the trail near Salt Creek, Kansas. (A headstone for James and his wife Mary was placed in the Salt Lake City Cemetery a few years ago. Mary was buried in the pauper section of the Salt Lake Cemetery so the Sexton provided a place for a memorial to be placed--in the paupers section. James of course is buried near Salt Creek, Kansas along the trail somewhere.)
