About James Alfred Stice

Stice, James Alfred

James Alfred Stice went to be with the Lord on August 3rd, 2014 at the age of 84.

Jim was born to Goldie Ray and Novia "Pete" Levi Stice in Chandler, Oklahoma on June 11th 1930.

At the age of 17 Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Maddox DD-731 as a Gunner's Mate First Class during the Korean War

In 1951 after his discharge from the Navy, he met a beautiful red head named Patricia Montgomery at church, after only two months and four days the two were married on June 12th. They settled in Santa Ana, California where they raised their family of seven boys and one girl, Lawrence, Jimmy, Robert, David, Rosemary, Jonathan, Kenneth and Jeffrey. During those years Jim worked his way up at the R.J. Noble Company. He was very proud of the fact that he could do every job from running the Hot Plant and Crusher to recycling asphalt but his most satisfying position was being the Superintendent because of the challenge it brought him. He retired after 47 years.

Jim was an enthusiastic member of the Orange Free Methodist Church for 55 years, serving as a Lay Pastor, Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, and Head of the Men's Jail Ministry. When the church closed, they moved to Calvary Chapel Old Towne where Jim was an Elder for 2 years.

Jim and Pat celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on June 12th of this year.

Jim was admired and loved by all who knew him. He was long known for his captivating smile, caring and loving disposition, and his deep love for God. He was immensely proud of his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved life and he loved people. Jim Stice knew no stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Junior, John, and Jack. Jim is survived by his wife, Patricia; sister, Judy Cargill; 8 children; 33 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

The Viewing will be held Thursday August 14th at Fairhaven Memorial Park and Mortuary in Waverley Chapel, 1702 Fairhaven Ave. Santa Ana, CA 92705 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Memorial Service will be held Saturday August 16th at Calvary Chapel Old Towne, 221 N. Waverly St., Orange, CA 92866 at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome at both. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in memory of James Stice to the missions fund at Calvary Chapel Old Towne.
