"James Benton Tallman: the son of William Tallman and Pheb e Henton. The Greater Tallman Family Newsletter Autum Issu e 11 of 1987 Lineage of Peter Tallman and Joan Briggs by Ha rry Edward Terrell. Everet Gensiche Scothorn book by Ralp h Love Washington D.C. Descendants of James Benton and Mar y (Bell) Tallman compiled by Dr. G.D. Tallman. On 16 Marc h 1809 he married Mary Bell (1792-1875) a daughter of Capta in Bell, an aid to George Washington. Their home for awhil e in Pickaway Co., Ohio, then to Tyler and Brooke Countie s Virginia, what is now West Virginia about 1830 where the y purchased the mill property at Pt. Pleasant, lived near t he old mill sight on Pt Pleasent Creek, evidently in Tyle r County.
About 1855, they moved again to Henry County, Iowa. "The y floated down the Ohio River to the Mississippi in a flatb oat and then took a steamboat to Keokuk, Iowa." James an d Mary are buried near Mt Pleasant, Iowa. Grave markers wer e erected by Dr. George and Att'y Harry Tallman about 1930 .
