Borego's second Postmaster
When James M. Thomson was born on October 23, 1887, in Kansas, his father, Alexander, was 32 and his mother, Emilie, was 22.
He married Margaret Prosser and they had four children together.
He then married Jane Bosworth and they had three children together.
In 1933 Eslie Wynn built a garage north of his store building in Borego (Borrego Springs). James Thomson, a recent arrival from Los Angeles, was his mechanic. In 1932, Wynn concluded that hauling the mail paid more than serving as postmaster, and since the government wouldn't allow him to hold both jobs, he resigned as postmaster on March 1st and started making the twice a week run to Julian. James Thomson became Borego's new postmaster (1931-34), but after his first wife's death in 1933, he decided to leave the valley, resigning as postmaster on July 31, 1934.
James died in October 1969 in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 82.
