The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private James C. Walker, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 25 November 1863, while serving with Company K, 31st Ohio Infantry, in action at Missionary Ridge, Tennessee. After two Color Bearers had fallen, Private Walker seized the flag and carried it forward, assisting in the capture of a battery. Shortly thereafter he captured the flag of the 41st Alabama and the Color Bearer.
