About James Walker
By 1841 James was a widower of independant means, living at "Flowergate", Whitby and having three servants .
In 1841 he married Elizabeth Chapman whose father was a partner in ownership of the Simpson,Chapman, Simpson Bank which was next door to the Walker Boatyard. By 1851 he was again widowed, resident at Airy Hill, Ruswarp, Whitby with 7 children and six servants. 1853 He married Elizabeth Simpson. There was no issue from this marriage Death: The Times Obituary ,20th. Jan. 1862. On the 17th instant, at Hastings, of apoplexy, in his 64th year. James Walker, Esq. of Airy-Hil, Whitby 1862-York---Probate:- Granted to his brother Richard Walker of Stockton-On-Tees, Flax Merchant--Effects--4000 pounds.
James was senior partner in the legal firm of Simpson & Walker in Grape Lane, Whitby The company handled the profitable legal work for the Simpson, Chapman & Simpson Bank, also in Grape Lane.
