(Obituary found in Grandmother Alma Cooper's Bible) LAST RITES FOR JAMES W. WARREN HELD TUESDAY, AUGUST 25, 1953 James Washington Warren passed away at St. Edward, Sunday, Aug 23 at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 13 days. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 25 at the Rising City Methodist Church with the Rev. Orin D. Watson, officiating. Music was by Mrs. Louis Thomas and Mrs. H.D. Treadway, who sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and" Sweet Peace, the Gift of God's Love." accompanied by Mrs. William Stephens. Pallbearers were: Ralph Gillett, Clyde Jones, Charles Lyons, Harold Napier, Ed Perty and Tom Sanley. Burial was in Circle Mound cemetery. James W. Warren was born in Illinois, December 10, 1869. He was the eldest son of James H. and Alma Ida Warren. He came to Southwestern Nebraska in 1917 and to Rising City in 1927. He lived at Rising City until April 1952, when he moved to St. Edward. He was married to Miss Lizzie Nelson in April 1913. To this union were born eight children, all of which preceded their other in death. Mrs. Warren passed away in 1926. In later years, he was married to Mice Nelson, who also preceded him in death. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. J.S, Cooper of Denver, Co. Ora A. Warren of Santa Monica Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. People attending the funeral from a distance were: Mrs. J.S. Cooper of Denver, CO; Roy T. Warren of Sacramento, CA; and Leonard W. Warren of Benkelman, Nebraska. (The very bottom corner was torn off of the newspaper clipping.)
