Jas A White appears in several city directories (ANCESTRY) 1920 - "rly guard", which I take to mean 'railway guard' - living in a street close to Burke St (but not Burke st itself)

1923 - ditto - at 47 Peacock St.

1933 - 125 Huxley St, near Colombo St - "serv stn" which I take to mean "service-person at railway station"

1936 - 5 Alma St Riccarton - "attndnt" (attendant)

(many more entries, skipped over)

1950/51 - near but not in Peveral St - attndnt

1954 - 62 Huxley St - "btmaker" (boatmaker?)

Occupation as shown on marriage cert 1950 = caretaker

DEATH: In his retirement years it looks as though he split with Frances and went to live in Rakaia & Ashburton. (as seen in electoral rolls)
