Jan (68), a dairy farmer was murdered and hidden in a barn before his assailants attacked his wife with knives, early in the morning of 10th June 2004, at Wilgeboom smallholdings.

Around 07h00, two farm workers approached Jan's wife Rita (68), at the kitchen door and said that her husband needed warm water at the cowshed. She was assaulted and stabbed a number of times. She managed to call for help on the CB radio.

The search for Jan lasted for over an hour. He was found with his hands and feet bound with wire, and had serious head injuries. Rita was taken to hospital and underwent an operation, and treated in the ICU.
