About Jan Philippus Greyling

Jan Greyling (1939 – 2006)

Brief overview:

Jan (67), a farmer and his wife Johanna Dorothea Greyling (64), were shot dead in the style of an execution, with pillows against their heads to muffle the shots. The bodies of Jan and Johanna were found in the farmhouse Florida, about 25 km outside Trompsburg. where they had lived for the past 22 years
.
Two pillows soaked in blood lay next to the Greylings. The couple was presumably shot dead a day earlier, Sunday after church. Supt. Sam Makhele, police spokesperson, says the farm workers became suspicious when the Greylings never came out of the house yesterday. When workers peered through a window around 4:00 p.m. and saw broken chairs in the living room and kitchen, they called the Trompsburg police.

Mr. Greyling's body, with a bullet in the back of the head, lay in the kitchen. He was allegedly repeatedly hit over the head with a blunt object. "Judging by the broken chairs in the house and room, there was a struggle," says Makhele. Mrs. Greyling's body, with two bullets behind her left ear, was discovered a few steps from her husband, in a bedroom. a safe in the room was wide open.

The farm killers presumably followed the couple on their way to the farm on Sunday. Makhele says the Greylings were ambushed upon their arrival and forced into the house. A can of pepper spray, like those used by the police, was picked up in the house. According to Makhele, it belonged to the murderers.
