According to his profile on Familysearch the date of death on his death notice is incorrectly noted down as 1 June 1901 and should read 14 October 1901

"Jan Lewis (46)
Executed by firing squad at Potchefstroom on 14 October 1901.
Lewis was a widower who left six children behind as well as having all his property and farm destroyed during the war. He appeared before the Military Court on 30 September 1901 in Potchefstroom on a charge of murder. He was executed on 14 October. His death notice was inscribed by J Swart on 20 January 1902 at the Potchefstroom concentration camp."
