Jan Johannes Bethesda Moolman (1969 - 2006)
Brief overview:
Jan (34), was shot dead on his farm Biesieslaagte, outside Wolmaransstad, on 29th November 2006, when eight men invaded his farm. Inspector Sam Tselenyane said Moolman was busy on his farm on Wednesday night, when the men appeared and shot him. He died on the scene.
Security guard Paulos Mphele (42), who was with him at the time, was shot in his left foot, and taken to hospital. "We are not sure what else was taken, we only know of the car," said Tselenyane.
Wolmaransstad. - A diamond miner and father of three young children was shot in the chest early last night with a shotgun while he was unlocking the door of his sorting house on the Biesieslaagte farm outside this North-West town.
Mr. Jan Moolman was flung into the sorting house by the impact of the shot. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene, said Insp. Police spokesperson Sam Tselanyane said.
Mr. Sam Mphele, the security guard on the premises, was shot in the left thigh with what is believed to be a pistol in the same incident. He was tied up and his shotgun taken from him before Moolman was shot with it.
They fled in Moolman's Toyota Land Cruiser.

- The killers escaped with Moolman's brown Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number FLP 728 NW. This vehicle was later found abandoned about 20 km from the murder scene near the Bamboespruit grain silos. Beeld has learned that diamonds are missing, but it is not certain whether the robbers looted them or whether they fell and disappeared during the incident.

Additional Biographical Information:
Moolman has been digging for diamonds for the past ten years, his wife, Veronica (30), said yesterday.
According to her, the couple's eldest daughter, Melissa (5), was hit very hard by his death. He also leaves behind three-year-old twins, JC and Rouxlé, his mother Cora and only surviving brother, Stoffel. "Melissa asked this morning if Dear Jesus could not just heal her father and bring him back. I just told her that one day we will visit him in heaven," said Mrs. Moolman, who described her husband as a wonderful father and husband.
