Jan de Beer (1944 - 2008)

Brief overview:

Jan (64) was strangled in his farmhouse near Volksrust on 6th December 2008. The police found his the body on his farm Verkyk, after a security guard suspected an altercation and called police. Police spokesman Malcolm Mokomene said.

According to Mokomene, De Beer appears to have tried to defend himself against his attackers before he was killed. "There were signs of a struggle." The farmer's hands were tied with a belt behind his back. His feet were also tied and he was presumably strangled with some of his own clothes. Some of those clothes were thrown over his face and a rag was pressed into his mouth.

De Beer's white Toyota Hilux bakkie was stolen but was found near Perdekop yesterday morning.
"The man, who was single, was presumably alone at home when he was attacked," Mokomene said.
