Jane Butler

Note: William Bell Clark in his book on Commodore John Barry ("Gallant John Barry") states that Barry had a sister, Jane who married twice. According to Clark, her first marriage was to a man named Willcox: a daughter, Rebecca Willcox, was living in North Carolina in the 1790s. However, my (admittedly shallow) research on Rebecca Willcox indicates that a Jane Barry was her grandmother, NOT her mother (her mother's last name was Butler).If this is correct, then this Jane Barry could not possibly have been the Commodore's sister: she would have been born c 1710 whereas the Commodore was born c 1745. But clearly, Bell Clark did not invent her and he must have come upon some evidence in his research to indicate that Jane and the Commodore were related.
