About Jane Field

Jane “Jenny” Pope was born in 1772, probably in Fauquier County, Va. She married in 1793, Major Abner Field (1752-1831). Their twelve children were Lt. Gabriel (c1794-1822) who died at Council Bluffs; Judge William (1796/7-1861); Col. Abner, Jr. (-1830); Alexander Pope (1800-76); Dr. Nathaniel (1805-88); Charles; Judith; Penelope who married James S. LeMaster of Memphis; Eleanor Greenwood Pope (1810-69); Hester E.; Judge John P. (1817-); and Elizabeth Field.

Colonel Abner Field Jr. (-1830/32) lived in Fayette and Union Counties, Ill. He served in the Illinois militia and the Black Hawk War and was elected treasurer of Illinois, 1823-27. He married Maria James.

Judge John P. Field (1817-) was judge of the 6th circuit court of Arkansas, 1843-44. He married Mary Lou Mitchell (1825-). Their children were Louisa (1844-), Mary (1846-) and John P. Field Jr. (1848-).

Hester E. Field married Arnold Wizotski, of Louisville. They had several children, James, John and others.

Nathaniel Pope and His Descendants", William and Mary College Quarterly, XII: 250 (1904); Frederick Clifton Pierce, Field Genealogy (Chicago, 1901), 1117 (mentions Louis instead of Charles); Stella Pickett Hardy, Pope Ancestry of Mrs. Oran Datus Watson, of Newport, Ark. (Batesville, Ark. 1915), 20-22; Donna M. Neary, Historic Jefferson County (Ky.) (Jefferson County Fiscal Court, Merrick Printing Co., 2000), 68 (photo of Abner Field House).

Jane Pope died in 1850 or 1852. Her husband, Major Field, died about November 2, 1831. They were probably buried near their home. Alternatively, they could have been buried in the cemetery of her brother, William Pope Jr. In 2014-15, all the remains contained in the Pope cemetery were removed to the Kate Pope lot in Cave Hill Cemetery by archaeologist Jay Stottman.* Reference: [https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/152780682/jane-field Find A Grave Memorial] - [https://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783 SmartCopy]: ''Jul 14 2019, 19:03:25 UTC''
