1820 British Settler

Jane Loid 28, together with her husband Richard Hairbottle 32, Gardener, and their 3 children, were part of Griffith's Party of 41 Settlers on the Settler Ship Stentor.

Party originated from Cardiganshire, Wales.

Departed Liverpool, 13 January 1820. Arrived Table Bay, Cape Town - 19 March 1820.

Area Allocated to the Party : Western Cape - on the left bank of the Zonder End River in the Caledon District. The party was shortly transferred to Albany, Lieutenant Griffith remaining at Zonder End River for some time.

Jane Hairbottle was born in the British Isles, probably in or near Cardiganshire, in about 1792. Aged 28, Mrs Hairbottle and family emigrated to South Africa in 1820. They were members of the Griffith party from Cardiganshire which sailed aboard the Stentor from Liverpool to Port Elizabeth. From there they were transported by ox wagon to their allotted land on the Eastern Frontier of the Cape Colony.
