married John McKnitt (McKnight) (1660-1714) Birth: 1665, Raphoe, County Donegal, Ireland

Death: Mar. 26, 1691, Manokin (Somerset County), Maryland

Jane and John were the parents of four children:

  • Robert*/4 Jun 1685
  • John*/8 Sep 1687
  • Katherine/10 Aug 1689
  • Mary/26 Feb 1691

This is where there seems to be some conflict in various McKnight books, and in online sources on the Wallaces and Alexanders.Who were the ancestors of Jane Alexander and Elizabeth Wallace.I have read through much of the lengthy and complicated information on these families (Nine Alexander siblings (supposed) at once is surely enough to create a nightmare for future researchers).

For Jane Alexander, wife of John McKnight II, there seem to be two basic sets of most often proposed parents:(1) Rev. James Alexander, d. 1704 Ire, and Mary Maxwell. But apparently some researchers at least don't think this couple had "issue".(2) Also mentioned are William Alexander and Ann LISTON.Then this William Alexander is said to be the son of John ALEXANDER and Agnes (Elizabeth) (Chloe Vershoyle) GRAHAMGREENE.

Then turning to Elizabeth Wallace, wife of John (James?) McKnight I, the two most often proposed sets of parents are:(1) Mathias/Matthew Wallace and Sarah Alexander; or (2) John Wallace and Margaret Thompson.

Is there a recent consensus on the parents of the above (1) Jane Alexander who married John McKnight II; and/or (2) Elizabeth Wallace who married his father?Have I taken a very wrong turn here?(FYI, I may well come right back to these same folks on another line if we can prove that the father of my Thomas Whaley who married Margaret Bratten, ca. 1790 in Worcestor Co MD, was the son of Elias Whaley and Martha Dale, daughter of John Dale and Elizabeth McKnight, daughter of John McKnight II and Martha Dale, son of John McKnight and Elizabeth Wallace -- or so I've been told.)
