FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. JANE RICH
Last Saturday morning funeral service was held at Roosevelt for Mrs. Jane Rich, who passed away Thursday of last week.
John N. Davis of Vernal and R. S. Collett of Salt Lake were the principal speakers. Music was furnished by a quartet consisting of Morley Vernon, Florence Pack, Ardon Bell and Medeline Bell. John Wiscombe sang a solo.
Mrs. Rich was born in the Trans___, Africa, on August 21, 1846 and came to America with her parents in 1860, coming directly to Utah. She later went to Bear Lake, Idaho as a member of the colonization party.
In 1866 she was married to Charles C. Rich. They moved to Vernal and are among the first settlers in Ashley Valley, where they homesteaded in 1884. After the death of her husband she worked for thirteen years in the Ashley Co-op. In 1909 inspired with pioneer spirit she moved to the former reservation, where she has lived since with the exception for a few years when she was in Salt Lake to be near the Temple where she could do Temple work.
Mrs. Rich has always been prominent in community work and activities at Vernal in the early days. She was particularly known for her high ideals and intellectuality.
She is survived by the following sons and daughters, Charles C. Rich and Joseph Rich, both of Roosevelt; Sarah D. Young of Moffat; John Rich, Mrs. Libbie Sabey, also of Roosevelt; Arthur Rich of Vernal and Ada Johnson of Roosevelt and Mrs. Essie Hyatt of Heber.
Mrs. Rich had 43 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. The body was taken to Vernal for interment.
