About Jane Anne Robbins
Mr Robbins came to Tauranga from Hawera in 1911 and from that time took an active interest in all local affairs. He was Mayor from 1912 to 1915 and again from 1929-1933. He fought hard for the Town Hall project which was begun during his first term of office, and thanks to his foresight it has served Tauranga up to the present time. He was an ardent advocate of the Omanawa Electricity Project which at that time put Tauranga in the forefront of electrical generation. For varying periods he served on the Tauranga Harbour Board and the Hospital Board and was Chairman of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Fire Board for many years and a keen supporter of the Municipal Band. He was a Justice of the Peace and held office as President of the New Zealand Justices Association. In later life he was appointed a Member of the Legislative Council. In 1950 he left Tauranga to live in Takapau, Hawkes Bay.
