Vina Jane Ikard Whitaker was the daughter of John Wesley & Mary Ann Vann Ikard. She married John Harvey Whitaker in 1867. To this union was born children, including John William, Lillie (Vann), Mary, Elijah, Hannah Jewel (Evans), and Houston.

Jane died prior to 1920, which John was listed in the US Census as a seventy-five year old widower, living in the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Lillie and Tom Vann, in the Poplar Ridge Community of Madison County.

She was buried on private property in New Hope, Alabama. According to family lore, at the time of her death, the route to the cemetery had become impassable because of unfavorable weather, so the family buried her on their property. When John died sometime later, he was buried alongside his late wife.
