Janique Giles (1967 - 2020)
Brief overview:
Janique (56), her husband, Wayne (57), and their daughter, Rachel (early 20's) were attacked and shot when three perpetrators gained entry to their home in Moonlight Crescent, Fly Inn Estate in the rural area of Elandsfontein on 4th August 2020. Wayne was shot in the head, Janique in the chest, and Rachel was seriously wounded and shot in both thighs.
Their son, Brandon (28), who lives in another section of the family home, was unharmed. "He reportedly reached out for help via WhatsApp following the attack. At 05:43 he reportedly wrote: "Help!!! Gunfire. Security needed." One minute later, Rachel wrote: "Helppp. Armed intruders." At 05:47 Rachel wrote: "I've been shot", and three minutes later, "My mom too"."
A resident then contacted the police.
Wayne died immediately. Janique was still alive for some time after being shot, and could reply to the retired intensive care nurse who said to her, 'You are not alone, breathe, just breathe'.
Rachel was air evacuated by helicopter to hospital.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said cases of murder, attempted murder and robbery were being investigated.
Items missing from the home include a TV set, MacBooks and a laptop.
