Jean Elbert Frye passed away in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania on October 21, 2009 at the age of 88. Mrs. Frye was born in New York City in 1921, the only daughter of Colonel John Jefferson Flowers Steiner and Marian Baldwin Steiner. She graduated from Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, received her B.A. from Wheaton College in Massachusetts and her M.A. in Psychology from Columbia University.
She married Roland M. Frye in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1947, Mrs. Frye served as a volunteer in many organizations, particularly the Bryn Mawr Hospital and the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Merion Cricket Club in Haverford Pennsylvania, the Acorn and Cosmopolitan Clubs in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Nassau Club in Princeton, New Jersey, the Mayflower Society, the Junior League, and the sorority PEO.
Mrs. Frye is survived by her son Roland Jr. (Susan Pettey), grandson Joseph Frye and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church 625 Montgomery Ave. Bryn Mawr at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2009.
Mrs. Frye asked that in Lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the American Philosophical Society, 104 South 5th St. Philadelphia, Pa. 19106.
