About Jean Rochon
Jean Rochon was the son of Pierre Rochon and wife Sarah Malan. He was born between 1650 and 1670. He married Marie Volle. There were four known children. Jean died between 1702 and 1733 in Pinache, Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Baden-Wurttemberg.
Most sources place Jean as the eldest son, which would put his date of birth closer to 1650. One source puts it at 1670, which would make his brother Pierre an older brother, and would break with naming conventions of honoring the grandparents before the parents.
There was persecution of Waldensians in 1686 that nearly exterminated the sect. Many of the survivors moved to Protestant countries. We believe that Jean Rochon was a part of this exodus, which explains his appearance in Baden-Wurttemberg.
Pinache is the oldest Waldensian settlement in Germany, founded in 1699 as a home for religious refugees.
