Jeandre (19), a young musician who sang at venues, was murdered on 29th May at the Cockpit Nightclub in Springs. Jeandre's father, Jannie, found him stabbed in the abdomen and his throat slit in one of the toilets of the club. He died in his father’s arms. Allegedly Jeandre received death threats several weeks before he was killed. He told the family he had also been accosted a few weeks before his death by ‘five coloured men’. Jeandre's mother, Rozanne, said that he was contacted by people in Pretoria who wanted to meet him ‘for a surprise party’. He and his father went to the club together, but the men who had arranged to meet him did not show up. Jeandre and Jannie stayed and had a few beers. The two men went to the toilet, and Jannie went out leaving Juandre. As he went out he saw a man he referred to as an ‘Asian’ go inside the toilet where Juandre was alone inside. This man, he knew as ‘Ali’ and frequented the club.
According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, the perpetrator is alleged to be an illegal Pakistani immigrant without any valid documentation.
