About Jeff Erasmus

Jeff Erasmus (1943 - 2009)

Brief overview:

Jeff (66), a farmer from Welkom, went missing in December 2009. A month later, anglers found a neatly amputated lower leg in Klippan.

Warrant Officers Bones Benecke, Andries Coetzee and JJ Nel combed the southern shore of Klippan from just after 09:00 to 14:00 on Saturday and found large parts of a skeleton under extremely dangerous conditions. The divers were praised by Benecke, the team leader, for their good work in what he described as an exceptional and complicated diving process. After each dive, divers had to be sprayed with clean water by fire personnel before they could remove their protective diving clothing.

Brig. Bennet Nxabela, acting divisional commander of the Welkom Police Department, thanked the divers, who did excellent work under difficult circumstances, as well as all the others involved, for the success. "Now the case can be brought to court and the culprits will have to account for their actions."

    • In January 2011, the two were then re-arrested, along with four other men, one of whom is an employee of the Department of Agriculture, due to the theft of 53 cattle outside Welkom. A headlamp from the department was used, among other things, during the theft. Capt. Stephen Thakeng said on further investigation, police found important information that led to certain indications.
