Came from OK. came to TX to pick cotton and meet Sarah at that time. They had 3 girls, Bessie, Sally, and Carrie and they were born in OK. Then moved to TX. Working in the fields. Remarried after Sarah passed away to Julie Mae Roberson and they had another child, Jefferson (Jay) Ward. Julie had 3 children already, Gladys Roberson (Penick), Tommy Clair Roberson and Willie Lee Roberson. The second wife passed away and he married a third time.

Bessie Doziers words: Papa Jeff was a Rounder probably had several affairs. One in particular was with Adea Huffman who Papa Jeff Married 2 - 3 years after Granny May died. They were married about 5 years before one of them had had enough and they went their separate ways, but were still friends.

 Papa Jeff died at the age of 85.  He was in a nursing home in Kilgore, TX. when he died.  He was there about 9 months during this time.  He was very active till his illness...building fences, seeing after cows and other things that needed to be done even in his 80's.  He would take his 30 minute nap every afternoon...always on the bare ground.  He had his quirks, but was a quiet man.  Papa Jeff had 9 brothers and sisters.
