Jennie Redman

Aunt Jennie was an aunt of mine (Vernon). She and I were very close. I would visit her Dame Standish Candle Place on Commercial St. in Wellfleet. She was noted for her gift shop and candle making from bayberries. I remember picking out gifts in her store (for free), being there when my Mom watched the shop for her. And my Saturday night visits for supper while we both watched and loved watching The Lone Ranger on t.v.

After school I would help her as she boiled the bayberries and then I would push a 2x4 attached to a big vat or tub and squish the wax out of the bayberries. It was a hot job but it helped her out for all she did for me. Later when I got my license, she let me drive her 1952 Ford.

Aunt Jennie was like the grandmother I didn't have as both of mine died in their 20's.

I remember when she married again to Robert Dasse. They exchanged vows at the Billingsgate and had the reception there.

When Aunt Jennie had cancer, she passed in her home. It was a very sad time.
