Jeremiah, Esq., York, son of Thomas and Martha Moulton of Newbury and Hampton; m. betw 12 Aug. 1673 and 24 June 1678 Mary Young who d. 3 June 1723; m. 2d in Sept. fol. Mrs. Alice (Chadbourne) Donnell, who died 18/June/1744 at 81 years of age(gr.st.).

He was a Lumberjack who worked along with Henry Sayward at Old Mill Creek and built a log house their in 1684 He was deeded from Pres. Danforth titled in "A deed for Gorges Point", which Rishworth claimed for "Mrs. Nanny. Town" gr. 1685; constable 1679; gr.j. often; Rep. 1692; joined with selectmen and James Plaisted to build the town-ho. 1698; selectm. 1700. Summonsed at times for retailing strong drink, threatening the constable, and abusing Mr. Hooke. Will, 9 May 1727 (d. 26 Dec. 1731), names w., only son, only dau. and her husb., and 6 gr.ch. Jeremiah and brother Joseph inherited father's estate in exchange for parental care. Rec. ch 1680-82: Joseph, Mary;

"In the Name of God Amen I Jeremiah Moulton of York in ye County of York in ye Province of ye Massachusetts Bay in New England Expecting Daily my Great Change by Reason of ye many Infirmities of old age which I find Continually increasing upon me altho at Present Blessed be God I am in health & of sound Iudgment & Memory and knowing that it is my Duty to Set my House in order, and willing as much as in me lies to Prevent Contention & the Said Fruits thereof Between my Dear Children after my Decease and to this End looking up to heaven for Guidance in So Important an affair I Do Revoking & Nulling all other & former Wills & Testaments by me made now make this as my Last Will and Testamt in Manner and form as followeth."

"First and above all I committ my Precious & immortal Soul into the hands of my faithfull Creator & Mercifull Redeemer Desiring to be found in Christ having on his Righteousness not my own and my Body I Committ to ye Earth Deceantly and in Christian Manner to be Buried by my Executors hereafter Mentioned in hope of a Glorious Resurrection to Life Eternal and then as to that Worldly Estate which God hath Mercifully given me I Dispose of it in Manner Following."

Biography

Jeremiah Moulton, Indian Fighter was born circa 1650 in Hampton, Old Norfolk County, Massachusetts Bay Colony. His parents were Thomas Moulton, Twin and Martha (Page) Moulton.

Jeremiah married Mary (Young) Moulton on June 24, 1678. Together they had the following children: Ebenezer Moulton; Mary (Moulton) Harmon; John Moulton; Lt. Joseph Moulton; Daniel Moulton; Jeremiah Moulton; Samuel Moulton; Abel Moulton.

Jeremiah married Alice (Donnell) Moulton circa 1724.

He died on December 26, 1731 in York, ME.



In August 1724, a force of 208 soldiers (which would split into 2 units under the commands of captains Johnson Harmon and Jeremiah Moulton left Fort Richmond (now Richmond) in 17 whaleboats up the Kennebec. At Taconic Falls (now Winslow), 40 men were left to guard the boats as the troops continued on foot. On August 23, 1724 (N. S.), the expedition came upon the village of Norridgewock unexpectedly. Many of the Indians were routed, leaving 26 warriors dead and 14 wounded. Among the casualties was Sébastien Rale. Harmon's son-in-law, Lt. Jacques, scalped Fr. Rale.
