True genealogy of this family https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ragland-977#_note-upward

Jerry Miah Ragland (AKA Jeremiah) was born on September 6th 1881 in Georgia and was recorded as a "mulatto", meaning of mixed race, the son of a black father and white mother who were probably share-croppers (renting small parcels of land to cultivate). [1]

According to death certificate of his mother, Texas (Texanna) Smith, formerly Ragland, (Ragland at the time of birth of Jerry Miah Ragland-she was fifteen when he was born) her race is shown as Black. Therefore the above statement is not accurate.

Records show that Jerry worked as a bartender in Atlanta, Georgia in about 1902-1910. He worked for "Lichtenstein & Hersowitx." which was a saloon located at 110 Decatur Street. He married Claudie Ritchie in about 1904.

In about 1914 the family moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he worked for the Julian distilling Co., distillers of "Feldwood Kentucky Whiskey." Unfortunately the distilling company closed in 1916.

Sometime after this, Jerry opened his own Tailor Shop at 215 East 9th Street in Chattanooga, TN. Records show that he worked for W.L. Marquet as a "Presser" in about 1918. By 1921 Jerry Ragland had opened a new store, "Liberty Dry Cleaning Company." He was shown as a "tailer" with his own shop.

His wife was working at this time, as a Maid for Miller Brothers Dept., Store in Chattanooga. In 1935, Jerry Ragland opened the "West Side Pressing Club."

Per death certificate for Jerry[2] his father was listed as Steve Ragland, and his mother was "Texas." Steve Ragland is also the father of Texas (Texanna) Ragland. Her mother was Ellen Ann (Lemon) Ragland. Jerry Miah Ragland was raised by Steve Ragland and Ellen Ragland.

On the 1910 census he was listed as a saloon porter.

He married Claudia Ritchie and they moved 130 miles away to work in the city of Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee. Her race was indicated as mulatto. Her father was white, and her mother was black.

He was a World War I Veteran.
