About Jesse Doan

Jesse Doane was born October 11th, 1807 near Niagara Falls, Canada. In his early life, after a short residence near Memphis, Tenn., he came to Warren County, Indiana, being one of the pioneers of that county, where he lived for 35 years. He was joined in marriage June 13th 1830 at Danville, to Miss Catherine Slaughter. To them were born other children, six of whom - M.S. Doane, Purthenia Lee, Elizabeth McClure, Isaac Doane, Sarah Hoag and Amanda Nichols - survive the deceased. In September 1858 Mr. Doane moved to Decatur County, Iowa, where he remained 18 years. In 1874 he came to Adair County, where he has spent the remainder of his days. Brother Doane was reared in the Quaker faith, and had implicit confidence in the Christian religion......His last days were spent at his daughter's, Amanda Nichols, near Greenfield, where he departed this life March 19th, 1892. On the 20th of March 1892, after a short service at the house, the remains were taken to Orient and buried beside his departed wife who had gone before in 1875.
