Jesse Hord was the fifth child of James and Martha Puryear Hord. He was born Sept.17, 1813 in Virginia. Jesse married Jane Emmeline “Jincy” Gardner, daughter of Jeremiah “Jerry” Gardner and Jain Alexander, about 1836. They had six children:

Jane Olivine Hord,
Rebecca Susanna Hord,
Thomas Richard Hord,
and Mary C. Hord.
Jincey Gardner Hord died June 5, 1850 at the age of 31. She is buried at the old Capernaum Cemetery near Waco, NC.
Jesse Hord next married Nancy Elizabeth Conner, daughter of William and Hannah Conner, on 7 Aug 1853. They had 12 children:

Jesse Hord farmed land along Buffalo Creek, in what is now the Fairview Farms area near Moss Lake in Cleveland Co. NC. He also had property inside the city of Shelby on N. Lafayette St. near the railroad line. Jesse was a charter member of Elizabeth Baptist Church on the east side of Shelby, NC. He died June 20, 1898 and is buried in the church cemetery.
