About Jewel

Jewell

Born Jewell Kilcher to parents Atz Kilcher and Lenedra Carroll on 5/23/1974 in Payson, Utah.

She and her family moved to Alaska, where Jewell grew up tending to horses, helping to harvest their family hay crop and tending to the family garden.

Age 6 - Jewell has been encouraged by her mother to be creative, all of these younger years. Jewell discovers a love and a gift to create poetry. Local tourists enjoy watching Jewell perform vocally.

As Jewell grew, she had no desire for higher education, she found no satisfaction working in the locality either. Jewell continued to write her poetry or song lyrics, depending how you look at.

The years of junior and senior high school found Jewell attending the Interlochen school of fine arts in the State of Michigan. After her graduation in 1992, Jewell and her mother Lenedra move to San Diego, California where Jewell sought to find herself and her place in life.

Continually writing poetry by day and "rubbing elbows" with local musicians by night, Jewell finds that people enjoy her music and she is lead into a musical career.

She began work with the Steve Poltz band, the Rugburns

An unknown at this point individual, mentioned Jewell's talents to an executive at Atlantic records in Los Angeles, California in 8/1994 Here she recorded four singles from material she wrote and promoted her album. Jewell continued touring coffeehouses until "Pieces of You", her debut album was released in 2/1995.

Her song "Who Will Save Your Soul" peaked at number 11 on the music charts and her song "You Were Meant For Me" peaked at number 2. Jewells album goes platinum 3 times over.

Jewell has received three Grammy Award nominations, an American Music Award and an MTV Music Award. She has graced the covers of some major magazines such as Time, Rolling Stone (2), Vogue, Interview, Entertainment Weekly, People and Details.

Jewell's second album [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_(Jewel_album) "Spirit"] debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 in 11/1998. Again, this album is certified platinum.

Also in 1998, Jewell releases a collection of her poetry titled "A Night Without Armor" which has remained on the New York Times best seller list.

Jewell accompanies her father Atz Kilcher vocally on the title song for the Discovery Channel reality show "Alaska The Last Frontier"

8/7/2008 - Jewell Kilcher and Pro Rodeo Champion, Ty Murray become united in marriage.
