About Jim Shapiro
Jim Shapiro is an American musician, singer, lyricist, and multi-instrumentalist best known as the drummer for the band Veruca Salt, which was co-founded in 1992 by his sister Nina Gordon and Louise Post.
Shapiro was raised, along with his sister, in several different locations, moving between Washington, D.C. and Madison, Wisconsin before settling in Chicago. He is Jewish and a 1987 alumnus of Yale University.
Shapiro joined Veruca Salt in 1994 and was with the band for the release of its first two and most successful albums, American Thighs (1994) and Eight Arms to Hold You (1997). After leaving the band in 1997, he founded the band Ultraswiss and served as its lead singer and guitarist. In 2002, he became the bassist for the Chicago-based band Hushdrops.
Shapiro re-joined Veruca Salt in 2013 and has remained with it since.
