About Job Pingree
Son of Job and Charlotte Tarrant Pingtee. He came to Utah with his mother September 12, 1857 and settled in Ogden. In the spring of 1859 Job told Brigham Young that he had some property in the old country and President Young advised him to return to England and sell it. In the fall he left Utah, arriving in England about Christmas time. While there he preached the gospel and baptized twenty-one persons, some of whom returned to Utah with him. Job settled his affairs and left England in March, 1861, landing in New York after twenty-eight days on the water. Arriving at Florence, Nebraska, he was appointed Captain over the second ox train company to cross the plains in 1861. He was 24 years of age. His company consisted of 36 wagons and about 150 people. They arrived in the valley Aug. 2, 1861.
