About Jochabed Daniel
Parents unknown, maiden name unknown. Seen as possibly related to John Smith, II, but this is speculative, as is placement as child of Joseph Smith.
Capt. William originally made Jochebed his executrix along with sons Richard and James. The original overseers named in 1694 were "Moris Cock & John Smith Sen." In the codicil William Sr. said "I propose my two Sons Will & Robt. Daniell overseers with Mr Jno Smith Sr". John Smith Sr. died before 6 April 1696 and Maurice Cocke died before 3 January 1697/8 (their probate dates). This means the codicil was written before 6 April 1696, helping to narrow down the date of Jochebed's death. After Jochebed's death, Capt. William involved his elder sons with helping to manage his estate.

She married Captain William Daniel from about 1672 to 1674, in Christchurch, Middlesex, Virginia, British Colonial America. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 5 daughters. She died from October 1694 to October 1698, in Christchurch, Middlesex, Virginia, British Colonial America, at the age of 56, and was buried in Christchurch, Middlesex, Virginia, British Colonial America.

Y DNA testing of descendants of at least two sons of James Daniel shows that their Y DNA does not match the Y DNA of descendants of his supposed "brothers" William Jr. and Robert Daniel. This, along with the wording of the will of William Daniel Sr., suggests that James was not the biological son of William Daniel Sr. He was likely a child of Jochebed and her previous husband, but was raised as a son of William Daniel.

Notes
- Jockabed is believed to have been the executrix of her husband William's will.
- Her last name as 'Smith' is by some sources considered to be mere speculation. She may be a sister of John Smith, one of the overseers of William Daniel's estate. Maurice Cocke, the other overseerwas the brother of John Smith's wife.
- A site at Rootsweb / Worldconnect: Helton, Wilson, Alcaraz, O'Shea Families - 29 April 2001 - Kari Helton suggests that Jockabed may actually be the mother of Richard, Agatha, John, Katherine, Elizabeth, Ann, Mary, James (b. 1680 near Christ Church, Middlesex, Virginia) and Daniel Daniel's, with William rather than Dorothy Forth. One reference speculates that Jockabed may not have died until 1704.
Research notes
somehow related to Agatha Obert

to be 100% certain of her conclusions, a proved descendant of Richard
Daniel, youngest son of William Daniel and Jochebed LNU should be found to take a Y DNA test. The match of a desendant of Richard to a descendant of William's two older sons would be conclusive.
Origins

Surname unknown
Jochebed's maiden name is unproved. Some have speculated that because one of the administrator's of Captain William Daniel's will was a Smith that she must have been a Smith. Others have speculated that her maiden name was Robinson due to the closeness of Captain William to Christopher Robinson. There certainly is no evidence that she is the daughter of Joseph Smith and Jane Cowper. In fact, an examination of that family shows the links of various family members in Family Tree to be unproved and unlikely (3 of Joseph's children were born prior to his marriage, with the first born when the father was age 16).
