About Joe W. Davis

Joe W. Davis, age 89, of Brumley, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2010, at Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia. He was born in Red Top on August 13, 1921, son of the late William Earl and Vera Ollie (Nichols) Davis. On March 13, 1946, in Harrison, Arkansas, Joe married Virginia Juanita Plemmons, who preceded him in death on March 18, 2006.

He owned and operated Davis Shell Station and Farm Implement in Brumley for almost 50 years. Joe was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard from September 1942 to March 1946. He was a Master Mason with the Brumley Masonic Lodge and up to his death he was a member of Iberia Masonic Lodge #410, serving for over 50 years as a Mason. He was also a member of the Brumley Lions Club and the Brumley Baptist Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Joetta Kay Cornett and husband William R. "Bob" of DeSoto; three grandchildren, Dr. Janae Smith of Santa Clara, California, William K. Cornett of Fulton, and Robert Cornett of Rolla; two sisters, Pauline Ramsey of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Shirley Reeder and husband Marvin of Columbia; and three sister-in-laws, Marilyn Humphrey and husband Ronnie of Iberia, Lucille Rosen of Iberia, and Geradine Wills and husband Robert "Bob" of Springfield.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bro. Warren Mitchell will officiate. Interment with military honors under the direction of the Iberia VFW Post 6167 and American Legion Post 105 will be in Hawkins Cemetery near Brumley.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, at the funeral home.
