Joel Gettis Tinnon, Jr.

Mr. Joel Gettis Tinnon age 84 of Shelbyville, passed from this life early Wednesday morning July 3, 2013 at his home after an extended illness.

He was preceded in death by his mother Annie Lou Hood Tinnon and father Joel Gettis Tinnon, Sr. and stepmother Minnie Lee Tinnon and one brother, Don Tinnon. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Annie Ruth Hale Tinnon; three daughters, Iris Fleenor, Linda Foster, Denise (Steve) Crabtree, two sons; John (Marshon) Tinnon and Joel Gettis Tinnon, III, one brother John Ed (Norma Jean) Tinnon of Pulaski and two sisters; Carol (Bill) Barlar of Clarksville and Frances (Dean) Roy of Athens, Alabama. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren & 11 great grandchildren.

He worked at Kuhn’s, Big K, TG&Y and Walmart, retiring in 1993. He was born in Pulaski, Tennessee on May 2, 1929 but has lived in Shelbyville for the past 50 years.

He was a member and former Chairman of the Board of Flat Creek United Methodist Church. He was a mason for over 55 years. Visitation will be held Friday July 5, 2013 from 11am until 1:00 pm at Doak-Howell Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service held at 1:30 pm Friday at Rosebank Cemetery in the Flat Creek Community with Brother Jim Sorrells officiating.
