No. 1287--enlisted for service in German South West Africa on 1st September, 1914 and proceeded to Luderitzbucht in February of that year. Unfortunately his service cards do not state the Regiment or Unit in which he served, but do indicate that he was promoted to the rank of Corporal on 21st September, 1914 and then to Sergeant on 30th November, 1914. He reverted to the rank of Corporal on 12th April, 1915 and was discharged retaining tis rank. He qualified for war medals and listed his sister, Miss J.C.
