Johan Dreyer (1961 - 2009)

Brief overview:

Johan (48), was shot seven times in front of his wife, Sandra (44), in their home in Chroom Street, Pretoria, on the night of Saturday 21st March 2009.

The couple had a braai (barbeque) with their family that evening. Sandra was inside listening to music when the five armed robbers invaded the property. Johan was outside next to the fire when three of the attackers grabbed him and pressed their firearms against his head. The other two attackers were standing watch outside.

The three took Johan inside to the bar and demanded cash. Johan told them that they could take anything they wanted, including the cars, and pleaded with the attackers not to kill anyone. Johan managed to break free and ran to get his firearm from the bedroom. The attackers chased after him and started shooting. Johan was struck in the back, foot and side, and died in the bedroom.

The killers then grabbed Sandra by her hair and demanded that she show them where the money was kept. She was assaulted with firearms resulting in severe facial injuries.

Sandra was admitted to the Eugène Marais Hospital.
