About Johan Hacksen

After his brother Mogens was killed during the Scanian War, Johan took over his job as a 'foged' or bailiff and then became a crown bailiff. He was a hard-working man and tough fighter who was held in high esteem among the Danish warleadership and civil administration. District governor (amtmand) Knud Thott over wrote about him to the king, and always in his praise. On one occasion the Swedes almost caught Haksen while he was asleep but he jumped out the window almost naked and managed to hide in a marsh, as both he and the Swedes reported. There are many reports written by Johan Haksen in the Danish archives. After the war he settled in Copenhagen and worked in the civil administration there.
