I also have this from "Wilkes Co. Heritage N.C.":

" Adam Jacob Staley was born in 1740 in Germany. He lived in the Netherlands before coming to Baltimore, MD about 1755 and settled at Redies River, Wilkes, NC. He died by drowning in the Yadkin River, May 1812..."
another part says this:

" The 1790 Census, Hillsborough District, Randolph County, lists Coonrod, Christopher, Martin and Adam Jacob Staley. Coonrod is probably a mispelling for Conrad, as legal title to property in Virginia is made to Conrad of Randolph Co., NC.

" Adam Jacob (1740-1824), came to wilkes County in the early 1800's. Wilkes Records indicate he was drowned at the age of 84, attempting to cross the Yadkin River by boat, about eight miles east of wilkeboro..."similar stories were stated many times throughout the document.
