Johan Pippo

Son of Gabriel Johan & Mataleena Piipo (aka: Gabriel Johansson Piippo & Madlena Johansdr Piippo). Birth record from Piippola parish indicates birth 6 Oct. 1837, baptized 15 Oct. 1837. Departure document for Johan Gabrielsson Piippo, age 19 from Pippola to Oulu was dated 16 Oct. 1856. Married Mary Johanna Valima (aka Walimaa) Peterson on 30 Dec. 1875. They divorced and then remarried. Johan's third marriage was to Anna Kaisa.

~~~~Obituary~~~~ John Pieppo, one of the oldest settlers of Moe, died at his farm home in Moe township, three and one-half miles northwest of Holmes City, last Thursday morning at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 2 days.

The funeral ceremony was observed first at the house at one o'clock Sunday afternoon. After this there was another ceremony in the West Moe church. Interment took place in one corner of the farm, which the deceased had acquired many years before as a homestead from the government. The funeral was very largely attended and was convincing evidence of the popularity and wide acquaintanceship of this old settler.

Mr. Pieppo was a Finn. He is survived by a son Carl, who lives on a farm adjoining that of his late father. (Alexandria Citizen, July 15, 1915)
