Johan (47), a geologist, pilot, and chairman of the GAC subcommittee of Precision Flying and secretary at SAPFA, was murdered in his home on 6th July 1999.
The South African Flying Power Association paid tribute to Johan after the news of his death.

A senior technical officer in the Geology Department at the University of Stellenbosch. Johan started flying in 1976 and holds a PPL. He is also the chairman of the University Flying Club and a director of the Stellenbosch Airfield Company. Committee member – 1988, 1989, 1996 to 1999
