My father was a man of God, like his stepfather, his father, and his grandfather who was a lay preacher. He was highly intelligent, and wished to become a doctor, but had to leave school early and take up an apprenticeship, becoming a mine manger before returning to his first love. Farming.

He was a man of integrity, and was loved and respected as an exemplary husband and father, not only by his own wife and children, but also by all who knew him. He lived for his family, and loved his grandchildren deeply. Like his mother before him, he believed in women's rights to equality. A good thing when you have 3 daughters! 5 foot ten inches, of medium to slight build, with green eyes and brown hair, an attractive, healthy and fit man.

He was born in the "Republic of Enkeldoorn" in Southern Rhodesia, and immigrated to South Africa in 1978.

He was shot and killed aged 65, protecting his wife from a would-be rapist during one of the first farm attacks in the early 1990's, when four men invaded their home.
