About Johann Leonhardt Arensburg
Mint warden in Zerbst, near Magdeburg, in 1683; served as mint master to Count Gustavus von Sayn-Wittgenstein in 1684 (Katlenburg); mint master of Barby (near Zerbst) in 1687; mint master of Stettin from 1689.
Johann Leonhard Arenburg was appointed Director of Minting Concerns of Pommerania (master of the royal mint) in Stettin around 1692. Two of his brothers, Julius Christian and Zacharias Harwig Arenburg, were also employed there. Such an important position and attendant title would not likely have been awarded to a family of modest means or background in the class-conscious European society of that time. His position also suggests that he was a man possessing not only a high social stature but also a good education. [Kondert]
