About John A. Singer
John Singer few year after his marriage to Henrietta bought 170 acres of land on the east shore of Diamond Lake. He built three houses and two large barns on the property. The Singers' residence was one of the largest and most modern houses in the country. They converted one of the houses into a large hotel.
In 1880, John put the estate up for sale at half the value of the property and moved back east. [The Waukegan Gazette, June 12, 1880]. Known as the Singer's house ever since, the house was destroyed by fire in 1901.
