John B. Amon was born in Baden Germany as noted in the 1860 census for Banks Twp. Carbon County. He was a watchmaker.

A history for Mahoning Twp. Northampton County, and later incorporated into the newly formed Carbon County in 1842, shows John "Ammon", clockmaker and dealer as one of the residents.

He is listed in a history for Carbon County as being a school director in 1846.

By the 1870 census report, John was a widower, and entered into the mining industry in Jeddo, Foster Twp. Luzerne County PA. The last know record for him is the Freeland City Directory of 1895 where he is living on Center St.
