John4 Babson (10) (Richard3, James2, Thomas1); born 9 Jul 1687 at Gloucester;212 born 9 Jul 1687 at Gloucester;213 married Hannah Hodgkins, daughter of Samuel Hodgkins and Hannah, 20 Aug 1711 at Gloucester;214 died shortly before 7 Dec 1742, the date of inventory of his estate, at Gloucester at age 55.215 He was also known as John Babson.

John Babson (10) bought land from Richard Babson (7) on 5 Oct 1720 at Gloucester: "all my houseing & Land Lying in Gloucester being Scituate in or near fresh water Cove in glocester ... Containing about one acre & halfe..." Richard and his wife Jane acknowledged this deed at Falmouth, York County the following day.216

Hannah was appointed administratrix of her husband's estate 13 January 1742. The inventory of the estate of "John Babson, late of Gloucester, coaster and fisherman" came to £122:5:11½ . At the accounting of payment of debts, dated 7 May 1744, John Babson, Jr. received £13:10 and, among others, Michael Webber received 33 shillings.217

John Babson (10) witnessed the land sale of Ruth Lovett on 22 Nov 1743 at Gloucester; Ruth Somes, alias Babson, admin'x on the Estate of her husband "James Babson, late of Gloucester, mariner, deceased" sold to John Babson (#14), [son of John (#10) and Hannah (Hodgkins) Babson] a tenement at Gloucester on the Harbour between the two streets consisting of one house and one-half acre of land, "being part of homestead of John Babson, deceased, father of James Babson, deceased, bounded E. by Capt. John Prince, s. on Forestreet and N. on New or Meeting House Street."218

Hannah Hodgkins was born on 18 May 1686 at Gloucester.219 She died circa 1779 at Gloucester over 90 years of age.220
