About John Baldwin of Newark, the third John Baldwin

JOHN3, John2, John 1 (of Milford)

John Baldwin, son of John Baldwin and Hannah Bruen, was b. probably not far from 1670, and in Newark, NJ. He was living Apr. 2,1743, and then had living and of age the following children, who of Hanover and Newark entered into bond in the sum of 200 lbs English to support him for life. (Dod papers--from papers left by Samuel H. Congar.).

Children were: Josiah, David, John, and Obediah.

Josiah: He is mentioned in 1761 in the Road Book of Rockaway, NJ., had been in Hanover, NJ. By tradition, he d. about 1800, aged 99 tp 100, and had a son Thomas, who moved to Vermont, and took his aged father with him. I have found in several quarters trace of quite an emigration from the vicinity of Hanover to Vermont.

David: In 1743 he was of Hanover, Morris county, NJ, and in March of 1778 (information of late careful and accurate John R. Burnett) his four sons-in-law were compelled by the Court of Common Pleas of that county to pay each weekly for his support ten shillings, probably in depreciated currency. The son-in-law were Timothy Ward (of Newark, probably s Caleb2,John Ward Jr. of Newark); Nathaniel Dickerson of Elizabeth NJ; Walter Smith, of Elizabeth; and Silas Hathaway, of Pequonnock, NJ.

John: of Newark, New Jersey. His will, in 1758, names his 4 daughters; Dorcas,Joanna, Mary, and Eliabeth. According to a genealogical tree of Mr. Congar's, he also had a son Joseph.

Obediah: My information about him is limited. He and his wife Susan had son Martin (buried at Whippany, NJ in 1742). He is mentioned in Rockway Road Book, in 1761, and, by tradition of descendents, had a son Stephen.
